How Managing Brokers Create a Smooth-Running Business

by Tracey Fuller

What Skills Do Managing Brokers Look For When Hiring Agents?

One of the key traits that all of the managing brokers interviewed said they looked for was personality.

“We treat others as we want to be treated in our office, and we need to have the reputation for being one of the nicest co-op’s in town in order for us to continue to be successful,” Rudolph says.

Rincon agrees that personality, along with intelligence and having the desire to run their own business, are the traits he looks for when bringing on a new agent.

“Sometimes they bring their resumes because they are professionals transitioning from another industry, and I will look at the resume out of courtesy” Rincon says. “But, if they don’t have those three elements, and it’s all or nothing, then I tell them ‘Well, I don’t think we’re a match.’ That’s my criteria, it works out pretty good.”

Maniha takes a slightly different approach when hiring a new agent. Even though personality, attitude, and their ability to work are among his criteria, he also administers personality tests to any agent looking to work for his team.

“Tony Robbins actually has a good personality test that I use often,” Maniha says. “I don’t care about their education or previous work history. They have to be willing to take responsibility for themselves, and not blame everything on everyone else.”
