New listings rise 22% in Houston

by Emily Marek

Houston saw one of the largest jumps in new listings in the country last month, according to the RE/MAX National Housing Report for December.

Realtors entered 8,822 new listings into the MLS during the month. That’s a 22% increase over December 2022, when 7,229 new listings were added to the market. The only market with a higher margin of increase was Bozeman, Montana, where new listings increased by 75.6% year over year.

Home sales, meanwhile, decreased annually. Closings fell by 5.9%, with 5,815 homes sold compared to 6,356 a year prior. Active inventory increased amid this decelerated sales activity.

Meanwhile, the median home price remained statistically unchanged at $330,000.
