Chesmar Homes and Brookfield Properties recently contributed $405,000 to the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA) Benefit Homes Project from the sale of a home they developed in the Elyson by Newland master-planned community in Katy.

The donation is the largest made to the GHBA Benefit Homes Project since the charity was founded in 1980. The project will pass along the proceeds to HomeAid Houston, which provides transitional shelter to people at risk of homelessness, Operation Finally Home, which provides housing to wounded military veterans and first responders, and the GHBA Charitable Foundation. This year, the Benefit Homes Project has raised $913,954 for the charities.

“Our members love to give back. We have an understanding that it’s our duty to serve and give back to the community and industry that has helped build our businesses,” GHBA President Matthew Reibenstein said in a press release. “With this funding, our charitable partners can continue to address the needs of our community’s less fortunate, and we can continue to address workforce development within the residential construction industry.”

Chesmar Homes has built nine homes and raised about $2.5 million for the Benefit Homes Project. Brookfield Properties, the development company behind Elyson, has participated in two builds.

Chesmar broke ground on this year’s home in January. By June, the home was completed and sold. The home was built in Chesmar’s Sweetwater layout, encompassing 2,988 square feet and offering four bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms and a two-car garage.
