Every week, we ask a Houston real estate professional for their thoughts on the top three stories from the week before. This week, we spoke with Laura Galusha, Gary Creekmore and Kevin Creekmore of Floor Coverings International of Katy. 

Houston Agent (HA): Houston is a booming city with rampant development. What trends are you noticing in new condos and single-family homes?

Floor Coverings International (FCI): The trends we are seeing in single-family homes are that most want to get rid of their carpet due to allergies or simply because they are looking for something new. Families typically go with laminate because it is half the price of wood and harder to scratch than regular engineered wood. We also are seeing those who can afford engineered wood steering toward hickory because it is the hardest of the domestic species, or to the exotics like Brazilian cherry or teak.

HA: There is a lot of competition for flooring in the Houston and Texas areas in general. What does Floor Coverings International do to stand out?

FCI: What we do to stand out is to offer a concierge service. We come to your home or office with our products and do a complete estimate, which is free of charge. We also offer design consultation. We are all about customer service and because of that our business is a total turn-key. We provide everything from A to Z and the customer never needs to run around town looking for what they want. We carry all the major manufacturers, and because we are a small family-owned franchise, customers know immediately with whom they’re dealing.

HA: In an increasingly digital world, what is your company doing to stay relevant?

FCI: We have a website where customers can book appointments online. Our website also features a 24-hour call service and is kept up-to-date with the latest styles and with photos of recently finished projects.
