Agent Snapshot: Kate Malito, Realtor, Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Gary Greene, The Woodlands

by James McClister

KATE-MALITO

Kate Malito is a Realtor with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Gary Greene working in The Woodlands.

What was your first job in the realty industry? My first job in the realty industry was a leasing consultant in the mulitfamily portion of the business. I started at a very nice class “A” community and spent 14-plus years in the multifamily investment and real estate property management industry.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? I love to spend time with my family, especially love to cook for them. I also enjoy a nice day at Lake Conroe fishing and soaking up the beauty of the lake with my family.

Where did you grow up? I grew up in north central San Antonio, Texas.

Growing up, what did you want to be? I recall my parents telling me that when I was very young, about five, I wanted to be “IN” television. As I grew older, I knew that helping people in the real estate industry was something I wanted to do. I loved to spend time with my father, driving the neighborhoods, collecting the brochures at the homes for sale and looking in the printed ads at the local store. I adored the homes and loved to see the interaction between the buyers and the Realtor holding an open house. I’m so glad to live my dream, and help people buy and sell their homes.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Dale Breckenridge Carnegie, for certain. Old school, I know, but many of his teachings and lectures apply to everyday life. He was an amazing writer and motivator; one of the first of his kind in my mind. The ideals he had then, apply to life for me now. He taught you how to build great self confidence, be professional, communicate effectively; how to improve your attitude and reduce stress. My two favorite quotes of his are “The essence of all art is to take pleasure in giving pleasure,” because I really do love helping people take their next step in life – generally making them happy. And this second one sums it up for me “Are you bored with life? Then throw yourself into some work you believe in with all your heart, live for it, die for it, and you will find happiness that you had thought could never be yours.” I’d love to sit for lunch with this man and just soak it in.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? I really enjoy time at the lake. I love the water and to fish!

What do you love most about the industry? I love the CLIENTS! They all bring something different and unique. Each client brings something new to my life, giving me a new perspective and experiences. They say “you learn something new every day,” and with my clients I find that I really do!

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I really pride myself in the fact that I am a “whatever it takes” kind of person. That who I am defines what type of real estate services I provide. Going above and beyond to make sure that no leaf goes unturned, that no solution goes unspoken and my honest opinion, with my years of experience in real estate, gives my clients the best service they could ask for.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? I haven’t found a difficult aspect. I really love what I do.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? I don’t ever miss a moment to network. I love attending functions for learning! I try to meet new clients by participating/volunteering in community functions along with local schools.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? Doing what I love for a living is absolutely my greatest. Not many people can actually look forward to “working.” My grandma always told me: ” They wouldn’t call it work if it was fun!” I live to spite her to this day, because I really do love my work!

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey.

What is your favorite restaurant? I can’t have just one. I love Yia Yia Mary’s near the Galleria, and I also love Greek Isle in spring.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Houston? The Niels Esperson Building, for certain. A timeless work of art.

What kind of car do you drive? My daily driver: Toyota Camry, emerald green. But my weekend car: Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, black with red racing stripes.

Smartphone or paper? Smartphone, for sure!

What is your favorite city after Houston? Las Vegas! Well, we are talking about fun, right?

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? It is EXACTLY what YOU make of it!

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? Evernote – it has made my life so much easier!

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? I love to follow athletes for local teams, local restaurants/bakeries and I love to follow marketing people!
