Is Prudential Gary Greene Changing Franchises?

by Houston Agent

With its Prudential franchise agreement soon expiring, where will Gary Greene go?

Rumors are swirling that Prudential Gary Greene, the oldest real estate firm in Houston and one of the Bayou City’s top performers, is changing franchises in 2012.

The Gary Greene partners offered no comment for this story, but according to an AG Beat piece on the topic, the firm will rejoin Better Homes and Garden Real Estate, which it joined in the ’70s, when its current franchise agreement with Prudential expires in June.

Gary Greene has been with Prudential since 2000, but its affiliation was called in to question when Prudential Financial sold its real estate brokerage last year to Brookfield Residential Property Services.

Gary Greene has not formally commented on its decision, but an interesting blog post from the firm’s sales manager, Ken Brand, may contain strong implications for where it will ultimately go. Referencing the firm’s expiring franchise agreement in June, Brand wrote, “This means we have complete freedom to evaluate every possible alternative and choose the very best strategic path for our clients and Gary Greene team members.”

Gary Greene could, Brand continued, re-up with Brookfield, become its own independent brokerage or join another national brand. He was vague, however, on which of those choices the firm was leaning towards.

“Options have been thoughtfully weighed and meticulously measured,” he wrote.  “Our choice is crystal clear.”

Brand did share considerable detail, though, on what the firm’s decision will bring to the table: “Reinvention married to a culture of care, fused with experience and savvy. Keen new tools. Way-way more corporate relocation. Even more qualified buyers and sellers. Fresh marketing. Modern mindset. Relevance.”

It could just be Brand’s phrasing, but such dramatic change would seem to imply a bolder move from the firm than a simple re-up. We reached out to Prudential Gary Greene, but no one had a comment for us.

Do you agree?

I have conferred with several managers and get the feeling that a tried and true franchise, BG&H would be a better fit than a “new” kid on the block, however, many agents have already signed with BG&H so I don’t know if they can office in the same locale as the current BG&H offices, ex: The Woodlands – some offices will be wide open to the market, others maybe limited. I do not see Brookefield doing well, myself, a broker int he area for 35 years. The deal has been made however according to my sources, whatever it is and offices already closed (Portofino) with 5 days notice. Managers let do, etc. Sad day for me, my favorite firm and office, and Manager!
