Sherry Palermo is an agent with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Gary Greene in the Bay Area.

What was your first job in the realty industry?
Although my career path is diverse, it has always encompassed real estate. My first job was managing and investing client portfolios, primarily using mutual funds and insurance products. I often used real estate as an investment in my client’s financial plans. I worked directly with my clients to place real estate in their portfolios, trust accounts and real estate investment trusts.

Where did you grow up?
I was raised in Columbus, Georgia and moved to Missouri City, Texas in 1980. I attended John Foster Dulles High School and really enjoyed my teenage years in Fort Bend County.

What is your favorite free-time activity?
Anything with my family!

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
When I feel stressed, I like to turn the negative (stress) energy into positive energy. I will either clean or tend to the flowerbeds. Ultimately, I really enjoy a game of Super Mario with my son!

Growing up, what did you want to be?
Initially a veternarian, then a commercial artist, then an architect. I truly wanted to be all things that I had an interest in!

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?
There are so many that I would love to have a conversation with, from Warren Buffet to hear his economic outlook to Rachel Ray to find out if you can really cook a great meal in 30 minutes!

Where is your favorite place to hang out?
Generally at home, since I am always commuting with work or kid activities.

What do you love most about the industry?
The people. This is the most rewarding career, as you get to be a part of assisting a person, family or business with their dreams and goals.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?
I look at the big picture, future goals and planning. In addition to doing the research, providing valuable resources, knowledge and representation, I take the time. Whether the goal is short term or long term, I am there.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients?
Everywhere I go. I enjoy our community, and there is only so much time in the day, so I take my career with me. I keep informed and stay involved with various different committees and organizations, from serving as a board member with our local Cub Scouts to chairing the Political Action Advisory Leadership group with the Houston Area Realtor Board.

What has been your greatest accomplishment?
My son.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read?
The Avengers.

What is your favorite restaurant?
Carrabba’s Italian Grill on Kirby.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Houston?
The Esperson buildings and The Rice Hotel.

What kind of car do you drive?
Chevy Tahoe.

Smartphone or Paper?
Smartphone

What is your favorite city after Houston?
Atlanta.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
This is your business; make it yours and promote yourself.

What’s your favorite Real Estate iPhone/ Blackberry app?
HAR.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter?
I like to lead instead of follow.
