Agent Snapshot: Michele Miller, Realtor, Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Gary Greene, Spring

Michele Miller

Michele Miller

What was your first job in the realty industry? Realtor for 1.5 years. First year mainly did leases and listings. This year mainly listings with a few buyers and fewer leases.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? Play the drums or exercise.

Where did you grow up? Columbia, S.C.

Growing up, what did you want to be? A non-teacher job where I could use my math major. Was not sure until I learned about a career in insurance for math majors – actuarial science. I worked in this field in Columbia, S.C. and Atlanta, Ga.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Justin Timberlake – he is talented in singing and acting and nice to look at. He seems down to earth and it would just be fun to watch him entertain throughout the meal.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? In my backyard. We have a pool, hot tub, outdoor kitchen with a grill and a smoker, lovely garden including a small herb garden, music and great lounge chairs. We entertain out there often.

What do you love most about the industry? That I am learning something new every day. I get to problem solve, work with different personalities and in most cases, make people happy. The referrals I receive from happy clients are another benefit that I love.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I have a marketing background and strong people skills from my two prior jobs – selling tupperware for 10 years and being a catering manager for four years. My organizational skills allow me to work with multiple clients, yet each one feels as if they are my only client.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? Difficult discussion about a buyer’s inability to buy and the need to wait, fix their credit, save money, etc. Some things in their past (or worse, their spouse’s past) can ruin their future.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? I have been involved with my swim team (parent, board member and volunteer) for over 14 years. I also volunteer in the community, and specifically work with the school district. I am getting more involved with my HOA. They will not allow me to sponsor events, but I can organize them and volunteer.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? Non-work: First place in my first body building competition in Orangeburg, S.C. in 1990. Volunteer-wise: Raising money and heading (president) of the volunteer group of senior parents for the class of 2014 Klein High School After Prom Extravaganza. Work-wise: twice this year having four closings in one month.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? Expendables – I love over the top ridiculous violence.

What is your favorite restaurant? Mellow Mushroom.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Houston? NGR stadium.

What kind of car do you drive? Lexus sedan.

Smartphone or paper? Both – primarily phone, but paperwork backup.

What is your favorite city after Houston? Charleston, S.C.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Use your sphere to promote yourself.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? HAR.com.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? Jimmy Fallon, Houston Texans, JJ Watt, Justin Timberlake and my daughter Mary Beth Miller.
