Property showings surge ahead of year-ago and pre-pandemic levels

by Emily Marek

Traffic at property showings has increased both year over year and from 2019, according to the latest Weekly Activity Snapshot from the Houston Association of REALTORS®.

Over 46,000 potential buyers attended property showings during the week ended May 22. That’s an 11.9% increase over the same time period last year and an 11.2% increase from the same time during 2019 (the last “normal” year prior to the pandemic).

Despite this uptick in consumer interest, closings and pending listings are still down year over year. A total of 1,943 homes sold during the week (down 9.8% year over year) while 2,414 homes went under contract (down 13.4% year over year).

New listings have also yet to surpass 2022 levels in May, with 5.3% fewer listings hitting the market during the week than a year ago.
