Streak of sale declines comes to an end in Houston

by Emily Marek

The Houston real estate market showed positive signs of improvement last week, according to the Weekly Activity Snapshot from the Houston Association of REALTORS®.

Closings are up for the first time this year. With 1,919 properties sold during the week ended Aug. 8, home sales increased 5.3% year over year. Closings were previously down from 2022 levels for 30 consecutive weeks.

Realtors also entered 3,274 new listings into the Multiple Listing Service during that period, a 1.7% increase over the amount entered during the same week in 2022.

Meanwhile, traffic at property showings continues to trend over 2022 levels. Nearly 41,000 showings occurred during the week, an 8.1% increase annually.

Pending listings, however, are down 5.1%.
