Concourse Development broke ground this week on The Grand Prairie, a new master-planned community located along the 290 corridor in Hockley.
In the first phase of construction, The Grand Prairie will offer 481 homes from five Houston builders: David Weekley Homes, Perry Homes, Sitterle Homes, Village Builders and Westin Homes. Prices will range from the low $300,000s up to the $600,000s.
Once complete, the 1,730-acre community will be home to over 450 acres of parks, nature trails and waterways. The west-facing vista of The Grand Prairie will also be preserved under the Coastal Prairie Conservancy. Additional nature-centric amenities include a 6,700-square-foot open-air pavilion and a 70-acre lake suited for fishing and boating, but also designed as a flood and drainage control reservoir.
“The amenities at The Grand Prairie will add serious value to our families’ quality of life without burdening them with oversized HOA fees,” said Harry Masterson, co-founder of Concourse Development, in a press release. “We’re restoring the grasslands to their natural state as a neutralizer to the constant stimulation that distracts from the real beauty of life to create a community that places a premium on family, friends and neighbors so they can enjoy the simple pleasures that make each day worth living.
“The thrill that comes from chasing fireflies is much greater than the manufactured feeling kids get from hunting down avatars in a digital warzone,” Masterson added. “We want to tap into that fleeting, unbridled joy of youth.”
Concourse worked with landscape architecture firm Clark Condon to develop an infrastructure plan for The Grand Prairie that not only embraces and preserves the natural landscape but also supports sustainable development.
“From day one, our mission for The Grand Prairie has been to purposely develop a serene and sustainable retreat where residents have the freedom to easily connect with nature and with one another,” said Concourse Director of Development Jen Kolby. “This community is being fashioned as a place where people feel at home, surrounded by all the creature comforts needed to survive.”
