Christi Borden is a Realtor with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Gary Greene in Katy.

What was your first job in the realty industry?
Realtor just over nine years ago with the same broker, Gary Greene, then a Prudential affiliate.

Where did you grow up?
Plainview, TX but lived all over as my builder-dad built homes in Texas, Mississippi and Lousisiana.

What is your favorite free-time activity?
Traveling across the world. We have been blessed to have seen many fabulous places and my bucket list is still growing.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
Read, write, cook, entertain and spend time with my family.

Growing up, what did you want to be?
An attorney… I became a court reporter instead so I was well placed to realize I no longer wanted Esquire to follow my name. Loved my time spent in the court room, though,

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?
George And Barbara Bush. We lived in Dubai during his Presidency and I truly would love to thank him for keeping us safe.

Where is your favorite place to hang out?
Besides Rome, Italy? Anywhere my husband, kids and dog happen to be. I am a lake person so one day I plan to live on a pretty lake and all that entails.

What do you love most about the industry?
The day to day challenges are what makes our work interesting. I love truly helping people solve their problems. The political side of the industry is fascinating and becomes more so the deeper I delve into it.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?
My global work and life experience, my intense involvement in our community and our profession and my true interest in helping my clients get what they want and need.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
Helping set realistic expectations so disappointment is avoided.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients?
I network on many levels, both online and in real life. I serve as a volunteer for both my local, state and national boards, am a PAC Trustee, member of many organizations. Online, I love my Facebook and Twitter friends as well. I am always meeting new people. In fact, I just helped a newlywed couple purchase their first home a month after we met on their Honeymoon cruise.

What has been your greatest accomplishment?
Personally, my twin SOS are graduating with Honors from Texas A&M this May and have jobs so that is amazing. I am also married to the love of my life. Professionally, I have been delighted to have selected the perfect Broker for my business. I have served as a Director at HAR for my fourth year and have served n many influential committees, adding value, I believe, to our profession. I also am happy to have been instrumental in the formation of our now annual fundraising efforts for The Sunshine Kids in Katy… Now in its sixth year and raising thousands of dollars for these terrific kids.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read?
Too many books to list. But A Dog’s Purpose hit me as so very special when I love my precious Macie, the wonder Mutt. This is a sweet book that every dog lover should read.

What is your favorite restaurant?
El Jarrito’s Mexican in Katy. Date night every Friday for 14 years!

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Houston?
Anything Texas Victorian in the heights.

What kind of car do you drive?
BMW.

Smartphone or paper?
Smartphone all the way. I really wish I had Apple stock for all of their products I utilize everyday in my business.

What is your favorite city after Houston?
Rome, Italy… Kidding. I love Washington DC. After Europe. Our Nation is so young and DC has a rich history we all need to remember. The architecture is amazing and so much to do and see.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Your choice of Broker can make or break you. The knowledge you have to pass the licensing test has nothing, nada, zilch to do with the business and you will only get the true knowledge needed from a great broker with tons of training and tools at your disposal. Yes, you have to pay for it one way or another but nothing of value comes for free. I am always so surprised when people expect a broker to provide the moon and the stars for nothing except the pleasure of having them near. Also, get out and volunteer for your professional association and community. It is good for you and good for them. Other people notice when you give and it always comes back ten-fold.

What’s your favorite Real Estate iPhone/ Blackberry app?
Why HAR.com of course.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter?
All the leaders in our industry: Brad Inman, NAR, Notorious Rob Hahn, Ken Brand, to name a few.
